Demolition of Valley Mill took place between 17-19th August 2006 using a 42 tonne tracked machine having a 19M long-reach arm with rotating grapple. The dmolition fully complied with all aspects of "Demolition Safety Management, HSE and Anglesey Building Control standards"

Luckily it was raining for much of the demolition duration so it kept dust levels low and our residential neighbours happy.

The machine systematically reduced the building (east to west) to a pile of debris working towards the gable end contigious with the London / Holyhead rail line. Network Rail managers with flagmen attended trackside keeping frequently-passing train speeds low whilst monitoring demolition progress given the railway like proximity to Valley Mill's flank wall; however all ran smoothly.

The arrisings were separated into timber good, timber poor, metal and masonry, with credits returning from material with residual value.

Once the site is cleared of timber and metal arrisings (closer to the time of housing construction) about 90 per cent of the masonry will be recycled hence crushed on site, stockpiled and reused for fill. The good quality masonry will be kept for stonework detail and any remaining sold on.

Picture No:3 has Councillor Goronwy Parry OBE (Valley Ward) in the foreground (away from the exclusion zone) attending demolition.

The demolition was managed in house with the assistance of P.G.W France C.Eng. (Master Demolition Engineer)
